White Flags
Earlier that year, Jesup had given the Seminoles white cloth, instructing them to use it as a signal for peace talks. On October 27, he dispatched General Hernandez to meet Osceola under such a cloth -- a white flag of truce. Coacoochee and John Horse had arranged the talk. John Horse was present at the scene, representing Micanopy and most likely serving as Osceola's interpreter.
