Word of Emathla's murder sent panic around the Territory. Minor skirmishes kept tensions high throughout December. Then, a week before Christmas, eighteen years of frustration erupted in violence, as the Seminoles launched one of the most coordinated attacks by Native Americans or blacks in U.S. history.
