White House
Daguerreotype by Plumbe, ca 1846, Library of Congress.
Faced with increasing threats to the freedom of his people, John Horse
twice traveled
to Washington. There, he and Coacoochee sought and received the aid of
their former enemy, General
Jesup, who brought the cause of the Seminole allies before Presidents Tyler (1844-45) and Polk
(1845-46).
