Payne's Prairie, Florida

In 1812, John Horse was born in the lush region known as Payne's Prairie, on the Alachua Savannah in central Florida. Named for the Indian leader King Payne, the prairie had been the cradle of Seminole and Black Seminole communities from their earliest days.
