spacer Map of the Seat of War in Florida Map of the Seat of War in Florida

The U.S. Army compiled this map in 1838 at the outset of the Second Seminole War. (The black version on the home page was created from a negative of the original.) In its sparse detail, the map revealed the Army's limited knowledge of Florida, which was a decided advantage for the Seminoles and their black allies.
