The background details are similar in each engraving and yet, as with John Horse himself, the details are not identical, leading to the conclusion that the engravings were distinct. What accounted for the changes between the two versions? Who requested them, and on what authority? Answers to these questions might speak to the accuracy of either image as a depiction from life. For now, the truth remains a mystery.
