While the tone of the cartoon reveals a strong
anti-Indian, anti-British bias, the engraving is more or less factually accurate in its
depiction of British-Native American relations during the War of 1812, at
least in the Southeast, where the British enlisted Seminoles and other
frontier Indians as their allies against the Americans. This alliance contributed to the
longstanding enmity between Seminoles and Americans, which erupted in the First and Second Seminole Wars.
